Apart from the LUNCH AND EVENING CONCERTS, many further events take place at the festival: 

ASCENSION CHURCH SERVICES 

On Thursday morning, the festival choirs sing in regional church services.

REGIONAL MATINÉES 

Regional children’s and youth choirs as well as high school choirs perform in three distinctive matinées on Ascension morning at 11.00 am. 

COUNTRY FOCUS 

Three festival choirs are selected to present the music cultures of their countries in one-hour sessions. The choirs are free to choose the form of this presentation. It can be in a narrative as well as in concert form. Part of each session is the audience’s interactive learning of a short song from the choir’s cultural background. 

“SINGE UF DR STROOSS” – SINGING IN THE STREETS

On Saturday afternoon, the festival choirs sing on five large open air stages in downtown Basel. The popular event usually draws an audience of a few thousand spectators.

Every day, the audience is given the opportunity to sing actively. This can be in an open singing, where the audience learns short songs from all over the world under the direction of an experienced conductor and aided by a supportive choir. It can also be a sing along event, where experienced choristers meet to perform a larger, well-known choral work accompanied by an orchestra. Another option is a themed evening of singing popular songs together, accompanied by a live band.

SWISS CHOIRMASTERS’ MEETING

Choir leaders from all over Switzerland and from all different music scenes (school choirs, church choirs, village choirs, folk choirs, music school choirs, private choirs, etc.) meet in the context of the Youth Choir Festival. They use the opportunity to exchange views beyond their own scene. The program includes workshops, a joint lunch, a music exhibition and finally the visit of festival concerts.

MASTERCLASS

Every now and then, the festival organizes masterclasses on various topics related to choral singing and festival management.
