“This choir ensemble portrays the historical music traditions of its people and country across the globe with the children’s angel-like voices.” The famous violinist Gidon Kremer, who has repeatedly collaborated with the girls’ choir “Shchedryk”, expresses his respect with the above-mentioned quote. Founded in the 70’s, today over 150 children of different age groups attend the choir school in Kiev. The much-traveled and award-winning concert choir consists of the 50 best singers of the school and can be found regularly on the great stages of the world. In 2022, an important trip took them to New York, where the girls performed at Carnegie Hall, among other venues. The singers feel at home in classical music of all eras as well as in folk music. In 2003, Marianna Sablina took over the artistic direction from her mother, who had founded the choir. Sablina attended choir school herself before studying choral conducting in Kiev. She was repeatedly awarded the prize for “best conductor” at festivals and competitions.
