Choir Direction:
Bernie Sherlock

The National Youth Choir in Ireland brings together the country’s best singers aged 18-25. Many of Ireland’s leading choral conductors and singers were part of the Irish Youth Choir in their youth. The choir meets several times a year, culminating in a 10-day rehearsal session in the summer. After that, the young Irish musicians can be heard in concerts at home and abroad. The repertoire of the choir includes the most important choral works from different musical styles. In addition, the cooperation with Irish composers is an important focus. The singers receive vocal training as well as training in various styles of choral music. They also have the opportunity to learn about career opportunities in the choral world. Bernie Sherlock is the artistic director of the ensemble. In addition to directing the Irish Youth Choir, she also directs the renowned New Dublin Voices and was co-conductor of Eurochoir 2021. She teaches choral conducting at the Dublin Conservatory and is a sought-after judge at international competitions.
