The Mixed Choir is the one of three prestigious ensembles of the Riga Cathedral Choir School, along with the Boys’ Choir and the Girls’ Choir. It was established in 1996 with the aim of providing a creative environment for young choir conductors and singers to practice and improve their skills, and to provide an ensemble for diploma examinations. In 2022 the choir received the most important prize for classical music in Latvia. The repertoire is broad and includes a wide variety of styles and eras. Currently, 55 students between the ages of 15 and 20 are a part of the ensemble. The choir cooperates regularly with various Latvian cultural institutions. Among other things, they are involved in productions of the Latvian National Opera. Jurģis Cābulis has been the artistic director for six years. He attended the choral school himself and received the master’s diploma in choral conducting in 2018. In addition to conducting various ensembles, he currently serves as the director of choral conducting studies at the school. In 2023, he will make his debut as the principal conductor of the famous Latvian Song & Dance Festival.
