The girls’ choir “Efroni” was founded in 1981 by Maya Shavit. She was one of the most important figures of the choral scene in Israel and directed the choir for 33 years. The choir school includes 6 different levels for 200 children of different ages. Shavit’s philosophy is that choral singing can build bridges between different cultures and people, and this is still the basis of the choir’s work today. For this reason, participation in “Efroni” is open to all interested children; there are no auditions. Despite or precisely because of this attitude, “Efroni” is considered one of the best children’s choirs in the country. Regular collaborations with the national opera and symphony orchestra as well as radio and television appearances testify to the choir’s high quality. Since 2017, “Efroni” has been under the direction of Shelley Berlinsky. In addition to her choral conducting activities, she also works as a singer and vocal teacher.
